MARENGO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An Illinois man was arrested near Marshall after a deputy K-9 detected drugs in his vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Around 11:35 p.m. Saturday, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s office was called to westbound I-94 near Partello Road in Marengo Township for a report of “an erratic driver.” The arriving deputy found that the driver was driving erratically and had “numerous traffic violations.”

The deputy tried to pull the driver over but the suspect continued. Eventually, the driver pulled over and a K-9 alerted that there were narcotics in the vehicle. The deputy searched the vehicle and found bags of substances suspected to be fentanyl and heroin. They looked to be packaged for individual sales, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver, a 25-year-old Illinois man, was arrested for possession of narcotics with intent to distribute and for not stopping for a police signal. He is booked into the Calhoun County Jail.
