Man arrested for assaulting wife with knives, deputies say

BLOOMINGDALE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was arrested for assaulting his wife with kitchen knives early Sunday near Gobles, deputies say.

Around 12:50 a.m., the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office was called to a home on 24th Avenue near 36th Street in Bloomingdale Township for a report of domestic violence.

Deputies arrived and found out that a 49-year-old man had tried to kill his wife with two kitchen knives, assaulting her inside the home. The victim was able to escape the home and go outside but the suspect followed, continuing to assault her, according to deputies.

The suspect was arrested and deputies said they used a Taser because he was not compliant. He was booked into the Van Buren County Jail for assault with intent to murder but was not identified.

The victim was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Deputies believe alcohol was a factor in the assault.
