Gun ‘accidentally’ fires inside purse at Kalamazoo-area Costco, deputies say

OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman was shot and two others were injured when her gun accidentally went off from inside her purse at a Costco store near Kalamazoo, deputies say.

The gun was “accidentally discharged” at the Costco store on Century Avenue off of Michigan Avenue in Oshtemo Township around 5:45 p.m., according to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman, who was a legal gun owner, was shot in the hand. One person injured their ankle and another person, who was not involved, “fainted during the chaos” and was injured, according to deputies.

They were treated on scene and the gun owner was taken to the hospital, deputies said.
