    MDARD issues advisory for cheese sold at Grand Rapids farmers market

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development has issued a consumer advisory for some cheese manufactured in Michigan.

    The advisory was issued Monday for products from Hickory Knoll Farms Creamery in Ingham County.

    “(The products) may have been manufactured and held under insanitary conditions without adequate pasteurization or antibiotic testing. Consumers are encouraged to dispose of any product they may have,” MDARD said in a statement.

    All products are labeled from Hickory Knoll Farms and have been sold in several farmers markets in Michigan, including the Fulton Street Farmers Market in Grand Rapids.

    The consumer advisory covers seven different kinds of goat cheeses and 15 varieties of cow cheese.

    • Cheddar
    • Cabra Borracho
    • Quixote
    • Rhymney

    Cow Milk Cheese:

    • Cheese Curds
    • Fresh Mozzarella
    • Lounell
    • Lounell al Vino
    • Harmony
    • Marie
    • White Cheddar Cheese
    • White Cheddar Cheese with Sundried Tomato Basil Garlic
    • Poitou
    • LeaMin
    • Kronberg
    • Raw Milk Asiago
    • Gouda
    • Pepper Jack
    • Parmesan

    No illnesses have been reported connected to Hickory Knoll products, but the potentially tainted products could cause several health issues, particularly in young children, elderly adults, people with compromised immune systems and people with antibiotic allergies.

    If you have recently consumed Hickory Knoll products, you may develop the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, jaundice, fever, weakness and headache.
