    Kalamazoo police looking for witnesses of shooting near WMU

    KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Kalamazoo police are looking for witnesses of an early Saturday morning shooting near Western Michigan University.

    The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said that several hundred people attended a large block party that was held on Kimbark Avenue near Michigan Street, known as ‘the Garages.’ Around 12:45 a.m., there was a fight between two people that ended with a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman being shot.

    KDPS said they were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening and have since been released.

    Police have no leads on a suspect, KDPS said.

    Anyone who attended the party, has social media or cell phone videos from the party or has any information about the shooting is asked to contact the criminal investigation division at 269.337.8139 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
