GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputy Chief Kristen Rogers is retiring from the Grand Rapids Police Department after 28 years.

Rogers joined GRPD in 1996 as a patrol officer in the South and West Neighborhood Service Areas. GRPD said she was transferred to the detective unit in 2000 where she served for 16 years. While with that unit, she was also assigned to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Kent County and the Family Services Team.

In 2015, she was promoted to lieutenant and served as a watch commander for two years before returning to the detective unit. GRPD said she was promoted to captain in 2019 and was assigned as the commander of the East Neighborhood Service Area. She became the deputy chief of administration and investigative services in 2021.

She has received several awards while with GRPD including a Lifesaving Medal, four Commendation Awards, two Achievement Awards and more. GRPD said she was also nominated for Police Officer of the Year in 2011.

“(Deputy Chief) Rogers has been a tremendous asset to GRPD, the Grand Rapids community, and to me personally in my first few years as chief,” Police Chief Eric Winstrom, said in a release. “She has an exemplary service record, has been integral to our successful recruiting and retention efforts, and has a long history of seeking justice on behalf of children, sexual assault victims, and victims of domestic violence. She is leaving us as the highest-ranking female officer in GRPD history.”

Rogers, who is retiring on Oct. 5, will be replaced by Capt. Michael Maycroft.

Maycroft joined GRPD in 1997 after beginning his career as an officer with the Norton Shores Police Department. He has worked within several areas of the police department, most recently as captain. He was also assigned as commander of the North Neighborhood Service Area.

“I am so very grateful for Deputy Chief Rogers’ amazing contributions to the success of GRPD in serving the Grand Rapids community and am excited to welcome Deputy Chief Maycroft into his new role,” Winstrom said in a release.
