MARTINY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say they have found the body of a 21-year-old man who is believed to have drowned in a lake near Mecosta.

The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office said that shortly before 10 p.m. Monday, it received a report of a possible drowning in Lower Evans Lake in Martiny Township, north of Mecosta.

Two men, 21 and 24, both from Rodney, were fishing when their boat capsized. The 24-year-old was able to swim to shore and find help. The 21-year-old — who, deputies said, was not wearing a personal flotation device — is believed to have drowned, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities searched that night but called off the search around 1 a.m. Tuesday because of poor visibility. They started searching again around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Around 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, the 21-year-old man’s body was recovered from the lake, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies identified the man as Gavin Miller.
