GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Michigan museum says it has some of the cremated remains of Charles Manson.

Earlier this month , the Michigan Museum of Horror in Monroe, south of Detroit, said it had acquired a vial of the remains of the cult leader.

“There’s a lot of true crime and horror museums in the world, but not many can say they own Manson himself,” the museum said in a social media post. “While it may be a small vial, upon inspection you can see the pieces of bone and ash, which is absolutely crazy.”

Owner Nate Thompson told MLive the item is “one in a million.”

“When we were able to verify the item as authentic, along with fellow authentications from seasoned collectors, as well as having the paper trail leading to the original source, we knew we had to acquire it,” he told MLive.

Manson died in 2017 at the age of 83 after decades in prison. His remains were scattered on a hillside in California in 2018 after his grandson won the rights to his body in court, CNN reported at the time .

The Manson family cult was responsible for several killings in the 1960s. Charles Manson was ultimately convicted and sentenced to death, but the sentence was later changed to a life sentence when the California Supreme Court struck down the death penalty, according to the Associated Press .

The Michigan Museum of Horror has also recently acquired a handwritten letter signed by Manson, it says. The museum says the letter came with tiny bag with eight hairs from the cult leader.

The museum touts Michigan’s largest Ouija collection, along with items that include human skulls, haunted objects and horror movie memorabilia. It also has an 18+ exhibit on death, according to its website .
