ArtPrize has ‘feast for the eyes’ at GR Downtown Market

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Throughout ArtPrize 2024, the News 8 Live Desk will be giving you a closer look at some of the about 900 pieces being displayed throughout the city and hearing from the artists behind them.

On Wednesday, digital host Phil Pinarski dropped by the Grand Rapids Downtown Market where they are currently housing multiple art pieces during the competition.

On the second-floor atrium, guests at the market can find four works from four different artists. These pieces include As Above So Below by Michelle Lewis-Kalinowski, “ Attention ” by Kelli Hulst, “ Color on Repeat ” by Stacy Sabady and “Spring Fishing” by James G. Brabec.

Kristen Aidif, the public events manager at the Downtown Market, said she was happy to provide space to these artists and hopes the public also enjoys the different pieces they have to offer.

“All four pieces that we have here at the Downtown Market are very different. So you hope people walk away with an understanding that art means something different to everyone. And there may be a piece that I adore and the person next to me doesn’t like at all,” Aidif said. “But I think that’s the beauty of being able to showcase art in a public space. It gets people in front of artwork they might not otherwise see.”
