SAUGATUCK, Mich. (WOOD) — Five small cities in West Michigan have received funding for road repair.

The state has announced 28 villages and small cities across the state are set to get a total of $5.1 million in funding for road projects. Each of the 28 municipalities have populations that total less than 10,000.

The money comes from the Community Service Infrastructure Fund Category B program, which was established in 2018 and is administered by the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Two cities in Allegan County received $250,000 each. Saugatuck received the funding for road repair on Maple Street, while Martin will use the dollars to repair Templeton Street, University Street, Edwards Street, Chalmers Street and Lee Street.

State Rep. Joey Andrews, D-St. Joseph, said the funding for Saugatuck is “welcomed news.”

“The investment will allow Saugatuck to make necessary repairs to ensure safer commutes for our neighbors who take Maple Street every day to work, school or wherever else they may need to go,” Andrews said. “I’m thrilled to see this investment being made in our community, as it will undoubtedly go a long way in keeping our drivers and pedestrians safer on the roads.”

In Ottawa County, Hudsonville received $209,000 for repairs needed on Corporate Grove Drive and Corporate Exchange Drive.

Stanton in Montcalm County received $91,964 for E. Bellevue Street, while Berrien Springs in Berrien County received $192,500 for Mechanic Street.
