GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A senior living center in Grand Rapids is expanding.

Beacon Hill at Eastgate, located at 1919 Boston St. near Plymouth Avenue, is set to add 103 one- and two-bedroom independent living residences, it announced Friday, for a total of 299.

The addition will be located along Plymouth Avenue and Boston Street, with units ranging from 1,100 to 1,700 square feet.

Beacon Hill at Eastgate is also redeveloping its assisted living and memory care residences. The health care center will be redone to include 48 new assisted living apartments, 14 high-acuity assisted living apartments and 15 memory care apartments.

Construction is set to start in 2026 and is expected to be done by 2028. The expansion will also add new amenities to the site, like a coffee shop.

The senior living center also plans on building 51 more independent living apartment homes at a later date.

“We never stop looking forward and have always been deliberate with our growth, listening to our residents and members of our community to truly understand what they want,” President and CEO Jeff Huegli said om a release. “We are grateful for the continued interest in our care model, which blends compassion and a commitment to treating residents with dignity in a warm, enriching atmosphere.”

Beacon Hill at Eastgate was first founded in 1959 when it opened as the Michigan Christian Home. It was renamed Beacon Hill at Eastgate in 2005. The nonprofit currently has more than 350 residents, according to its website.

    — Correction: A previous version of this article misstated when construction on the expansion is set to take place. We regret the error, which has been fixed.
