    Warm start to October; no fall freeze in sight

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — In an average year, the first fall freeze would be just around the corner. This year, summer temperatures are sticking around.

    In Grand Rapids, the first fall freeze typically happens on Oct. 8. Areas further north, like Big Rapids and Newaygo, typically fall in the last week of September.

    The cooler air will continue to dodge West Michigan in the coming days and weeks. The Climate Prediction Center indicates a high probability that most of the country will see above-average temperatures through the second week of October.

    In fact, the forecasted low temperatures over the next eight days remain on the warmer side, in the upper 40s to near 60 degrees.
