PORT SHELDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies say a car and a motorcycle crashed Friday afternoon in Port Sheldon Township, sending the motorcycle’s driver to the hospital with serious injuries.

It happened just before 4 p.m. at Van Buren Street and 144th Avenue, according to a release from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say a motorcyclist, a 23-year-old Holland man, was heading north on 144th Avenue when a car on Van Buren Street, driven by a 36-year-old Holland woman, entered the intersection.

The vehicles crashed, sending the motorcycle into a ditch, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies say the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators say they’re not sure whether he was wearing a helmet: They found a helmet on scene, but it was “away from the motorcycle.”

    The sheriff’s office is investigating.
