SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — A pickup truck and a South Haven Public Schools bus carrying elementary schoolers crashed Thursday morning, sending three children to the hospital, first responders say.

It happened just before 11:15 a.m. at Phoenix Street and Blue Star Highway in South Haven, according to South Haven Area Emergency Services.

Crews say about 30 elementary school-aged children were on the bus. They say five children were treated on scene: Three were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, while the other two were released to their parents on scene. The rest of the students were either picked up by their parents or transferred to another bus.

The people in the pickup truck were not hurt, according to first responders.

South Haven Area Emergency Services did not specify what led up to the crash. Authorities are investigating.
