Deputies: Pedestrian hit, killed by SUV near Wayland

LEIGHTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A pedestrian was killed after being hit by an SUV near Wayland, deputies said.

Around 8:12 p.m., an SUV was headed west on 137th Avenue when it hit a pedestrian near the intersection with 6th Street in Leighton Township, according to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office. When first responders arrived, the pedestrian was dead, deputies say.

The driver of the SUV was the only person in the vehicle and was not injured. Deputies did not release the names of either of the people involved.

The road was closed for investigation following the crash, the sheriff’s office said.
