WEBBER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A police chase led to a man’s arrest in Lake County after deputies say he was wanted for questioning in the death of an infant in St. Joseph County.

Around 7:20 a.m. Tuesday, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office got an alert from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office to look out for a man who was wanted for questioning in the death of a baby deputies believed was his child.

Just after 8 a.m., the man’s vehicle was spotted on M-37 south of Baldwin and Lake County deputies tried to pull him over. The vehicle did not stop. Eventually, stop sticks were used, which punctured the tires but did not stop the vehicle, deputies said.

The driver continued to his mother’s address on 40th Street in Webber Township, where deputies took him into custody. A 1-year-old and 3-year-old were also in the vehicle and were turned over to Child Protective Services, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies noted that during the 10-minute chase, the vehicle never went over 57 miles per hour. The driver also put on his emergency flashers while leading the chase.

The 36-year-old Three Rivers man was booked into the Lake County Jail and will face fleeing and eluding charges, as well as driving with a suspended license. He will be transferred to St. Joseph authorities for questioning on the death of the child and for outstanding warrants, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
