BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 20-year-old man died after a Tuesday morning crash in Benton Township, troopers say.

It happened around 6:30 a.m. on Paw Paw Avenue near Riverside Road, according to the Michigan State Police.

Troopers say a passenger car was heading north on Paw Paw Avenue when the driver lost control, crossed the center line and crashed broadside with an SUV in the northbound lane.

The car’s driver, identified by troopers as a 20-year-old man from Coloma, was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead, according to MSP. His name was not released Tuesday.

State police say the 62-year-old woman Stevensville woman driving the SUV was hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Investigators say they don’t believe alcohol or drugs were involved, but they believe speed was a factor. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to MSP.

    State police continue to investigate.
