MSP said the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday on I-96 in Detroit. The troopers were on scene investigating a crash when a 20-year-old driving a Ford F-150 “failed to move over and struck the fully marked patrol car.”

Both troopers were hurt and taken to a local hospital for treatment. MSP did not comment on the severity of their injuries.

The patrol car suffered significant damage. On-site testing determined the driver was impaired. They were arrested and lodged pending prosecutor review.

In a statement , F/Lt. Mike Shaw said the incident is just another in a long line of poor decisions made by impaired drivers.

“This crash could have been a lot worse. We are reminding drivers to not get behind the wheel while impaired. There are too many other options available,” Shaw stated.
