WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — A second man has been convicted in a New Year’s Eve shooting at a Walmart store in Wyoming that left two people injured.

On Friday afternoon, Kent County jurors found 21-year-old Latrell Young guilty on six charges, including assault with intent to commit great bodily harm.

Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker thanked jurors for their attention during the weeklong trial in Kent County Circuit Court.

“This was a great verdict on an extremely serious incident,” Becker said. “It was a long week of trial and we are thankful the jury took their time, considered all of the evidence, and returned with these guilty verdicts.”

Young, who remains in the Kent County jail, faces up to 20 years in prison on the most serious charge when he returns to court for sentencing later this fall.

The shooting happened at the Walmart on 54th Street near US-131 on the evening of Dec. 31. Court records say co-defendant Camrin Carpenter showed a gun as Young tried to steal a man’s cellphone. The victim ran away and Carpenter and Young chased him. Young fired several rounds, investigators said. The victim was shot four times but survived. A bystander was shot in the foot.

Carpenter, 21, was sentenced to prison in August.
