LGBTQ nightclub Rumors to close temporarily for renovations

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — LGBTQ nightclub Rumors in Grand Rapids is set for a temporary closure as the building undergoes renovations.

Rumors, located on Division Avenue near Oakes Street, is set to temporarily close in November, real estate broker Drew Born confirmed to News 8. Work is set to start on Nov. 4.

Born said it will be a short closure, as the building needs some remodeling and renovations. The work is expected to take at least six weeks. The goal is to reopen around Dec. 15, in time for the club’s Christmas parties.

The property was listed for sale late last year, following the death of the LGBTQ club’s founder. The club has remained open while family who inherited the property, who live out of state, continue looking for a new owner.

The three-story building was originally listed at $3.6 million, Crain’s Grand Rapids Business reported at the time . The listing price has since dropped to $2.4 million.

Born said the team is looking for an owner who would continue operating the night club. There have been multiple potential buyers, but nothing has gone through yet, he said.

Most of the interested buyers would keep the night club open, Born told News 8. He said a couple of developers have looked at the property, but none were interested enough to make an offer.
