CITY, Mich. (WOOD) — A boil water advisory was issued Tuesday for a Kalamazoo neighborhood while the city does some work on the water system.

The advisory is in effect for several properties along Woodheath Avenue near Old Colony Road; Grosse Pointe Street; and Phorncroft, Chalfonte, Grand Marais and Dukeshire avenues.

A map released by the city of Kalamazoo shows properties affected by a boil water advisory issued on Oct. 15, 2024.

Everyone in the affected area should boil their water for two minutes before consuming it. It’s safe to bathe in the water without boiling it.

The advisory was issued because repairs were being done on a water gate valve on Lorraine Avenue, which caused a drop in system pressure, the city said. Such drops in pressure can allow bacteria to enter the system.

The boil water advisory is precautionary; no bacteria had been found in the system as of Tuesday. Authorities say tests confirming the water’s safety should be back soon. They expect to lift the advisory by Friday.
