    Trooper rescues dog that fell into gas line hole

    WATERVLIET TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A state trooper helped rescue an 11-year-old dog that fell into a gas line hole in Watervliet last week.

    On Oct. 10 around 10 p.m., a Michigan State Police trooper was sent to Orchard Drive off of N Watervliet Road after a dog became trapped in a large hole.

    A post on MSP’s social media account that the dog, Sophie, was being walked by her owner when she fell into an estimated 5- to 6-foot-deep gas line hole.

    Body camera footage released by MSP shows Tpr. Justin Van Nuil becoming acquainted with Sophie before helping pull her to safety along with her owner.

    Sophie was not hurt and was able to finish her nightly walk, MSP said.
