POLKTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people were taken to the hospital following a Saturday morning crash in Polkton Township.

Around 10:30 a.m., deputies with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the area of 56th Avenue and Wilson Street for a crash.

Responding deputies learned that an eastbound 2010 Mercury Mariner, driven by a 55-year-old West Olive man, didn’t stop at the stop sign on Wilson Street. The vehicle hit a southbound 2015 Ford F250 that was pulling a utility trailer. The sheriff’s office said both vehicles ended up in the ditch.

The driver of the Mariner and his passenger, a 62-year-old West Olive woman, were both hurt. The sheriff’s office said they were pinned and had to be extracted by fire crews. The man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and the woman was airlifted to the hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the Ford was treated at the scene and then released.

    The crash remains under investigation.
