Protesters critical of Rep. Chavez-DeRemer finish car caravan in Oregon City

After a 220-mile, two-day long drive, members of the Consolidated Oregon Indivisible Network and other local Oregon activists ended their “Looking for Lori” car caravan protest at Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer’s Oregon City office.

The car caravan protest began on Saturday, Aug. 10 in Bend, stopping along the way in Albany and the Oregon state Capitol in Salem before ending in Oregon City.

Indivisible Oregon has continued to publicly critique Chavez-DeRemer, a Republican elected in 2022, for not hosting more constituent town halls during her two years in Congress. The group is also critical of her stances on issues such as the Second Amendment, reproductive rights, climate change and endorsement of former President Donald Trump.

“Your votes against climate solutions as a member of the Conservative Climate Caucus puts Oregonians at terrible risk because of the increasing heat,” said protester Chris Mack in a press release.

The press release also mentioned a recent Portland fundraiser held for Chavez-DeRemerwith Speaker of the House Mike Johnson that cost $2,000 to attend.

Earlier this year, Indivisible Clackamas, the local chapter of the statewide organization, held a protest on the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision for Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which effectively ended federal protections for abortion access.

Chavez-DeRemer’s office did not immediately respond for comment.
