    State fair ready to roll at Salem fairgrounds

    SALEM: The Oregon State Fair runs through Sept. 2 at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem and features all the carnival fun and more. The fair has set its Umpqua Bank Concert Series lineup: Yung Gravy, Tuesday, Aug. 27; Josh Turner, Wednesday, Aug. 28; Ludacris, Thursday, Aug. 29; Daya, Friday, Aug. 30; Huntley (from “The Voice”), Monday, Sept. 2.

    Children’s book author to pay visit to Molalla Public Library

    MOLALLA: Children’s author Sara T. Behrman will visit the Molalla Public Library on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 10:30 a.m.

    The author of “The Sea Hides a Seahorse,” Berhman will be on hand to read with visitors, sing some songs, and make a seahorse craft. Her book is a seek-and-find story that journeys underwater to provide a glimpse into the secrets of seahorses.

    Molalla Train Fest ready to roll into Labor Day weekend

    MOLALLA: Train Fest will return to the Molalla Train Park Aug. 31 to Sept. 2 at 31803 S. Shady Dell Road in Molalla.

    This year marks the 70th year celebration over the Labor Day Weekend. The event will be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and will offer no entry fee or charge to ride the trains. The facility operates solely off donations.

    There is food and beverages available, along with a day of family fun.

    Canby Library ‘Friends’ slate book sale at festival

    CANBY: Friends of the Canby Library will be selling the Book Garden premium donated books at the Swan Island Dahlia Festival on Sunday, Sept. 1 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

    LEGO Club at Molalla Library ready to meet again

    MOLALLA: The Molalla Public Library’s LEGO Club will be meeting Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

    The club meets every month on the first Tuesday and offers those interested a chance to stretch the imagination and practice LEGO building skills.

    MOLALLA: The 4th annual Watermelon Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Willamette Valley Melon Company, 32300 S. Dryland Road in Molalla.

    Gates open at 2 p.m. and the festival runs from 3 to 9 p.m. In addition to food, beverages and a vendor market, the festival will feature the music of Roman and the Long Haul, The Shane Brown Trio, and Fold the Wagon.

    Music festival with political bent set for fairgrounds

    CANBY: The Clackamas County fairgrounds will host Red Wave Revival: A Celebration of America, a musical festival on Saturday, Sept. 7. Gates open at 3 p.m. and the music doesn’t stop until 10 p.m.

    The event will feature the music of Brandon Hartt and The Hankers, Network 2.0, Bluegrass Jam, and the comedy of Anthony Hill.

    Put on by the Clackamas County Republican Party, the event is a chance to enjoy music, food and meet Republican candidates.

    St. Josef’s ready for grape stomping fun and festivities

    CANBY: St. Josef’s 42nd Grapestomping Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7-8 at the winery, 28836 S. Barlow Road near Canby.

    Saturday will feature dance music and plenty of stomping available. Sunday will feature German music from the Gordonaires. Grape stomping will be going on all day on both days and there will be special recipe German sausages, German style pretzels and other locally made foods. There will also be new vintages and special reserve wines by the glass and bottle, plus tastings, as well as beer and other beverages.

    Molalla churches coming together for fun event

    MOLALLA: The Christian churches of Molalla will hold a special event on Sunday, Sept. 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Clark Park.

    The first-ever Molalla H.T.P. (humility, thankfulness, praise) event will include hot dogs, a water slide, music and God’s word being shared.

    Canby High class of 1974 ready for 50th reunion

    CANBY: The Canby High School class of 1974 will have its 50th class reunion on Sunday, Sept. 8, at Merrywood Farms in Carus.

    Teresa (McNamee) Meyers is organizing the event and is looking for help and to connect with classmates from 1974.

    Dahlias in full flower during annual Canby festival

    CANBY: The annual Swan Island Dahlia Festival will run Wednesday through Sunday (and Labor Day) through September in Canby.

    The festival is from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day and will offer nearly 40 acres and 370 varieties of colorful dahlias to explore. The festival also offers live music, a Sunday farmer’s market, classes, food and more.

    Series looks at ancient books of Mexico, Guatemala

    WOODBURN: The series Ancient Books of Mexico and Guatemala will be held a the Woodburn Public Library is a four-week workshop led by professional storyteller Valentina Ortiz.

    The dates will be Sept. 10, 17, 24, and Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. at the library.

    Learn to read an ancient Mexican book, listen to the story of Aztec migration and create your own imaginary story.

    Small Farm School coming soon to CCC

    Oktoberfest ready for annual return to Mount Angel

    MOUNT ANGEL: The annual Oktoberfest event, billed as one the largest folk festivals in the Northwest, takes place from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12; 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13-14; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15.

    The annual kickoff party will be held on Sept. 7.

    Aurora Vineyards hosts D&D and wine tasting event

    AURORA: Aurora Vineyards will host D&D with the Winemaker on Thursday, Sept. 12.

    There will be multiple games beginning at noon with a two-hour game time limit with wine tastings included.

    Celtic Festival set for fairgrounds in Canby

    CANBY: The inaugural Oregon Celtic Festival will be Friday-Sunday, Sept. 13-15, at the Clackamas County fairgrounds in Canby.

    Get ready to be swept away by the enchanting atmosphere of a world brimming with sights and sounds of Celtic culture. From the heart-pounding rhythms of traditional music to the lively swirl of dancers in kilts, this will be a celebration of heritage and joy.

    Free square dance events open to youth and adults in Aurora

    AURORA: The Chaps & Petticoats Square Dance Club will hold two free events for beginning square dance on Sept. 15 and 22. The events are open to youth and adults and run from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Maplewood Grange (25480 S. Hwy. 99E in Aurora). Square dancing is an activity families can do together as well as couples and individuals. The event will teach square dance steps building to dancing to a music song.

    Beer and wine festival slated for Salem’s riverfront

    SALEM: The Willamette Valley Wine & Beer Festival will be Sunday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Salem’s Riverfront City Park Amphitheater.     Open mic event set for Woodburn’s Bungalow Theatre

    WOODBURN: The Canby Public Library will hold a Poetry & More night at the Bungalow Theatre on Saturday, Sept. 21, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

    This is an open mic event, so participants can bring their poetry, music, and stories to share. The Bungalow Theatre is located at 455 N. Front St., in Woodburn.

    Music memorabilia show ready for 41st edition in Canby

    CANBY: The 41st Annual Record Bonanza will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, at Ackerman School (350 SE 13th St.) in Canby. The show runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5, there is free parking, and 8-foot tables are $60 each.

    MOLALLA: The Molalla Farmers Market meets every Thursday through the end of September from 3 to 7 p.m. at 180 Industrial Way in Molalla.

    Canby’s Farmers Market is up and running Saturdays

    CANBY: The Canby Farmers Market will run every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in downtown Canby on N. Holly Street between NW 2nd and 4th avenues.

    The market will run into October and produce from local farmers, hand crafters, food artisans and plenty of other vendors.

    CANBY: A Dungeons and Dragons campaign for teens ages 13-18 will be the first and third Saturday at the Canby Public Library.

    Portland Timbers supporters group meets in Canby

    CANBY: The local Portland Timbers support group, Timbers Army Clackamas County Frogmen, will meet at the F.O.B. Taproom in Canby cheer on the MLS team for every game this season, except those on Wednesday nights.

    The game will be shown on a large pull-down screen and the fun will include snacks and patches and stickers for sale. Beverages are available on site, and food can be purchased outside of the taproom and brought in during the game. All area Timbers fans are encouraged to stop by.
