If you’re feeling a bit stir crazy in Woodburn, the city is offering opportunities to get off your easy chair and explore the sights and sounds surrounding the Woodburn area.

Monthly adult trips and tours are being offered by the city through the Recreation and Parks Department, according to Emily Tierney, city events and special programs manager.

“Our adult recreation trips are for community members 21 and over,” Tierney said. “We do them, kind of, seasonally. There are, usually, monthly trips in fall and spring times.”

These trips are a way to explore Oregon without venturing too far away from Woodburn and to socialize with others.

“It’s a chance for people to, kind of, get out of Woodburn and explore different areas in Marion County and beyond,” Tierney said.

The program has gone by different names in the past, Tierney said. Currently, it’s called R.E.C, which stands for recreation, exploring and connection. A variety of trip opportunities are offered, including some that are more local and cost friendly.

“We do other trips that are further excursions,” she said. “Last spring, we went to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. There are a variety of opportunities for people to connect with other people in Woodburn who going on these trips.”

In the past, trip participants have enjoyed Silver Falls, the Wooden Shoe Tulip Fest in Woodburn and the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center in Oregon City. The program also offered a dinner cruise in Cascade Locks on the Sternwheeler.

“We offer a lot of trips. We’ll do some small hikes and get outdoors, or go to museums or the aquarium,” Tierney said. “We’ve done a variety of different things over the years.”

A trip is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 17, to Bauman’s Farm & Garden in Gervais. The $25 trip fee covers admission to Bauman’s Harvest Festival, which features over 15 activities, including the corn maze. Another trip is planned for Dec. 18 to see a showing of Christmas Vacation at the Lakewood Theater in Lake Oswego.

Costs for the trips vary, and those interested should register either online at the city website or in person at the aquatic center. All trips and tours leave from the Woodburn Memorial Transit Center parking lot, located at 2900 Tom Tennant Drive. The city advises that the passenger vans used for the trips are not ADA accessible.

Visit the city’s website for updated information about future trips, or contact Tierney at 503-982-5239.
