What would Independence Day be without a hearty community breakfast?

Per tradition, the French Prairie Kiwanis Club will be hosting an all-you-can-eat breakfast of pancakes, eggs, ham, coffee, milk and juice, 7 to 10 a.m. Thursday, July 4, at Woodburn’s Legion Park.

Event spokesperson Steve Kufeldt said this annual Chuckwagon Breakfast dates back to 1954, and it has invariably provided a festive setting for renewing friendships and making new ones while raising funds that support children’s programs.

Admission is $10; kids under age 12 eat free. Credit cards are accepted, and donations are gladly welcome.

Kufeldt noted that the French Prairie Kiwanis Club is the “morning” Kiwanis Club of Woodburn and meets at 7 a.m. on Thursdays at the Country Cottage Restaurant. It is part of Kiwanis International, a global organization of clubs with members dedicated to serving the children of the world.

Celebrating 106 years of service, Kiwanis dedicates annually more than 18 million service hours to strengthen communities and serve children. The Kiwanis International family comprises nearly 600,000 adult and youth members in 80 countries and geographic areas.
