With the heat of a budding summer picking up steam and hordes heat-relief seekers looking to cool off, so too are advisories about water safety.

Many of those advisories in this region focus on water temperatures and vital precautions to take when heading out to go swimming in area waterholes.

Given that scenario coinciding amid Woodburn’s plans to place a community center project funding bond on the ballot, enhanced water safety has becomes a visible element and point of emphasis within the city’s mission.

Woodburn city officials recently announced that the new Woodburn Community Center would prioritize access to swimming lessons and lifeguard training. Teaching kids to swim keeps them safe in and around water, officials stress, and the new pools planned for the community center would provide increased opportunities for kids to learn critical water-safety skills.

As the first full day of summer brought forecasts of 90-plus degree weather, the city of Woodburn emphasized in its weekly E-Blast that if the new community center is achieved, so too are new and broader opportunities for swimming and swim-safety instruction.

Water safety is just one of multiple features and benefits that the city and the Community Center’s many advocates stress as they convey information about the potential project and its bond.

Advocates also stress that public input is paramount to the process, and they urge Woodburn residents to study available information about the project and weigh in with their thoughts.
