Woodburn Public Library Manager Mike Jansen recently announced that two upcoming exhibits this summer may be of keen interest to many in the community, taking place at the library, 280 Garfield St.

Erskine Solar Spectrum Art will deliver an unveiling at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 27. Then at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, the Comunidad y Herencia Cultural will give a short presentation about Charro or Mexican Horseman attire.

The July 27 event features artist Peter Erskine who will unveil his solar art in the library’s atrium.

“Peter uses prisms and mirrors to manipulate ordinary sunlight,” Erskine’s website noted. “He creates immersive, ever-changing, rainbow light environments that heal and awaken our hearts and minds. Always a fresh offering.”

Through his solar spectrum environmental art called Secrets of the Sun: Millennial Meditations, or S.O.S., Erskine underscores “the beauty and dangers of sunlight: the beauty of a rainbow and the horrors of global warming, ozone depletion and mass species extinction.”

According to Oregon Cultural Trust, Comunidad y Herencia Cultural’s mission is to serve the Latinx community by providing cultural, artistic and educational programing that encompasses both heritage and lived experiences. This upcoming Woodburn exhibit exemplifies that.

Jansen noted that the short Aug. 10 presentation will include a rope trick demonstration as well as a folkloric ballet presentation.

The exhibit will be on display through Aug. 24.
