NEK July 30 Flash Flooding Response
Many areas, including St. Johnsbury, were hit with up to 8 inches of rain overnight into July 30. There is widespread damage in some areas, with flash flood warnings still in effect (with more storms on the way in the next 48 hours and rivers still yet to crest). Area officials are asking folks in hard hit areas to not leave their homes if they don’t need to due to roads out and high water. More information is at Vermont Public.

VTSU Lyndon Basketball Camp concludes two highly successful weeks
Lyndonville, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon played host to the annual VTSU Lyndon Basketball Camp the past two weeks. The camp saw record enrollment, as 139 area young people, ages 8 to 15, came to campus. 34 aspiring female players attended the girls session, July 15-19. Then last week the boys session served 105 more youngsters, the largest camp attendance at Lyndon in recent years, and perhaps the largest ever.

New York state police recruit tried taking training officer’s loaded gun, officials said
Cazenovia, N.Y. — A recruit for the New York State Police was charged after trying to take a training officer’s loaded gun last week. The recruit, Jose L. Valeriano, 22, was meeting around 10 p.m. last Tuesday, July 23, with Trooper Cory Sprague when he started acting “erratically” and lunged for Sprague’s gun, according to Beau Duffy, a state police spokesperson.

Barre, VT- The Central Vermont Council of Aging received a grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization on Monday to help with the care and safety of senior dogs . The Grey Muzzle Organization awarded grants to animal welfare groups, with the goal of helping local senior dogs and their communities. CVCOA was one of 400 applicants and one of 100 organizations to receive a grant.
