Man hit and killed by car in Kings County, officers searching for driver
The California Highway Patrol is searching for a driver after a deadly crash in Kings County.Just before 4 am Wednesday, officers responded to Kent and 16th Avenue, just southeast of the Tachi Palace Casino Resort.Officers say a 38-year-old man from Lemoore was in the eastbound lane of Kent when he was hit by a Kia.The man was pronounced dead at the scene.After the crash, the driver abandoned the car and ran from the area.The cause of the crash is under investigation, and it's unknown if alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor.
Labor Coalition Led by Massachusetts, Illinois, and Seattle Urges DHS to Extend Protection for Noncitizen Workers Amid Investigations
To protect noncitizen workers during investigations into labor violations, new measures are being introduced to strengthen their rights, the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office, joined by the offices from Illinois and the Seattle Office of Labor Standards, has formed a coalition with 27 other labor enforcement agencies to petition the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Their request is to extend the Deferred Action Program period for these workers from two years to a minimum of four years, according to a press release from the Massachusetts AG's office.

July 4, 2024 - Sacramento, CA – Assemblywoman Wendy Carrillo (AD-52, Los Angeles) dedicated a commemorative plaque honoring the survivors and past victims of forced or involuntary sterilization made possible by her legislation. Signed into law in 2022, AB 137, included reparations payments, as well as the creation and public display of plaques acknowledging and apologizing for sterilizations at government institutions. The Assemblywoman joined representatives from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) at a private and solemn ribbon-cutting ceremony, held at the California Institution for Women state prison, in Chino, California.
