Five years since opening, Woodland’s hottest hub for sandwiches celebrates its community recognition.

On May 22, residents voted Woodland Corner Store & Deli as having the “Best Sandwiches in Southwest Washington” in the Best of Southwest Washington 2024 online community vote, held by Flyways Markets.

Store founder and co-owner Anthony Kasziewicz said celebrity chefs including Gordon Ramsay inspired him to implement quality in their sandwiches.

“It was quite the honor because when the community chooses you, that says a lot, [and] they know they have a good product,” Kasziewicz said. “But [the award] includes southwest Washington, so it wasn’t just the Woodland community. Clark County and Cowlitz County were involved. It was a pretty awesome [feeling].”

The Woodland Corner Store started producing sandwiches six months after opening, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kasziewicz said the community rallied behind the store, supporting its operations throughout the challenging period. In return, the store has donated sandwiches and funds to local city and school events, including state-level competitions for Woodland High School’s football and cheer teams. Kasziewicz, a U.S. Air Force combat veteran, also offers discounts to service members, teachers, police officers, firefighters and veterans.

“The [community] stood behind all the local businesses, especially ours, which we appreciate… Anytime there’s a school activity we like to donate when possible,” Kasziewicz said. “Last fire season, we were pumping 180 sandwiches a day for the firefighters. We’re locally involved in anything this community needs.”

Kasziewicz thanked the community for its support of his sandwiches. A local favorite is “The Corner Club,” a club sandwich that stands out due to Kasziewicz’s recipe. He omits the usual middle slice of bread and uses Boar’s Head Swiss cheese, OvenGold turkey, Black Forest ham and bacon, all complemented by a home\made Italian mayonnaise. The Woodland Corner Store’s sandwiches include homemade sauces and local products including Boar’s Head meat and cheeses, Kalama sourdough bread and locally produced farm vegetables. Kasziewicz explained the deli process takes a lot of prep work to get ready.

“Prep usually takes about an hour in the morning to get everything ready. We slice the bread and produce, get the sandwiches made for our customers [every] day,” Kasziewicz said. “We offer these sandwiches, but they can customize them in any way, shape or form.”

Brandy Ross, co-owner of Woodland Corner Store, reported a remarkable 2,400% growth since opening in 2019. The store’s next venture is to build a snack shop bar to serve beer and wine to adults in a designated area. Additionally, Kasziewicz plans to construct a deck in front of the building to provide more space for the community to gather and enjoy.

“Our goal was always to have a chill place to hang out,” Kasziewicz said. “What Woodland always lacked was a place to hang out, for adults or kids doing homework. Our upstairs [area] will be a very cool environment with books on shelves [and] bean bags.”

Local Yelp reviewers also voted Woodland Corner Store as having the “Best Local Pizza,” and the shop earned a “Business of the Year” award from the Woodland Chamber of Commerce, both one year after opening. The business is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sundays at 1697 Lewis River Road in Woodland. Special orders can be placed at woodland cornerstore.com or by calling 360-225-5000.
