Colonial schools to expand access to AP for students with disabilities after federal probe
U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights has resolved a compliance review of Colonial School District. The resolution agreement announced Thursday stems from allegations the Delaware district was not providing students with disabilities equal access to Advanced Placement courses. The agreement now looks to ensure ongoing compliance with Section 504 and Title II, the office said in a press release, following its investigation.

Crash Near Bridgeville Wednesday Morning Leaves Salisbury Man Dead
A two vehicle crash just before 1am Wednesday on Route 13 in the area of Newton Road north of Bridgeville has left a Salisbury man dead. Delaware State Police say a Durango was in a northbound lane on Route 13 and a Santa Fe was traveling the wrong way in the northbound lane. Both vehicles attempted to avoid a crash – both moving into the right northbound lane – and collided. Police say the Santa Fe overturned and ended up between the shoulder and the right northbound lane. The driver of the Santa Fe, 22 year old Djifenson Dorilus, of Salisbury was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries – he died from those injuries on Thursday. The driver of the Durango, a 46 year old Millsboro man was also taken to an area hospital with a serious injury.

Laurel Police have updated a story that only First State Update brought you yesterday. Officials said on July 19, 2024, the Laurel Police Department announced an increased police presence at the Holly Brook Farms Apartment Complex on Grazing Court in Laurel. This was in response to two simultaneous residential search warrants executed as part of two multi-month drug dealing investigations. These searches resulted in the recovery of a loaded firearm and several hundred doses of heroin, leading to four felony arrests.
Former Wilmington teacher allegedly sent explicit photos to former student on Snapchat, police say
WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) — A former teacher was arrested Thursday after allegedly sending sexually explicit pictures to a former student, said New Castle police Friday morning.Police said they were alerted in July that Alanis Pinion, 24, sent the pictures to a 14-year-old former student on Snapchat.Pinion was charged with sexual solicitation of a child under 18, endangering the welfare of a child and first-degree indecent exposure. She was taken to Baylor Women's Correctional Institution in New Castle County after failing to pay a cash bail of $46,000, authorities said.Pinion was an 8th-grade teacher at Saint Mary Magdalen School in Wilmington.
