The city of Woodstock’s 2024 July 4th Spectacular returns on Independence Day. Here’s what’s planned for the celebrations throughout the day.
The festivities on July 4 include a downtown road race, a Main Street parade, a festival and fireworks after dusk.
At 6:45 a.m., Main Street and Rope Mill Road will close for the Freedom Run. New this year, Market Street will close between Mill Street and Oak Street, and Chambers Street will close from Wheeler Street to Arnold Mill Road for the race. Registration for the 5K/1K/Tot Trot opens at 5:45 a.m. and pre-race assembly is at the Woodstock Arts Event Green on Market Street.
Main Street, Rope Mill Road, and Chambers Street will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Market Street will remain closed for the awards ceremony until 10:30 a.m.

At 9:45 a.m., Main Street and Rope Mill Road will close again for the parade, with road blocks at intersections along the parade route. The parade is set to begin at Woodstock Elementary School and continue south along Rope Mill Road to Main Street. Floats will continue through downtown Woodstock to the Sam’s Club near Highway 92. The grand marshal for the parade is Army Air Corps Veteran Russell Vaudrey who served in the Pacific theater in WWII. The parade will take place rain or shine unless there is dangerous weather. Roads will reopen around 11:30 a.m.
After the parade, a festival is planned for the Park at City Center until 3 p.m., with a foam party, food, games, arts and crafts, music and vendors.
At dusk, a fireworks display will be held in the area of Highway 92 and Interstate 575. Woodstock Police Department has established an exit traffic plan and will be directing traffic after the fireworks.
