(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A major barn fire in the far northwest suburbs prompted a massive, hourslong response from local fire crews on Monday morning, fire officials said.

Officials said the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District received calls about a fire at the 1600 block of South Rose Farm Road in unincorporated Woodstock shortly before 10:30 a.m.

Within six minutes of receiving the call, the first fire crews were on the scene and found the barn “completely engulfed in heavy flames,” officials said.

Due to downed power lines and strong winds, first responders had a difficult time accessing the barn.

Firefighters battled the blaze for about 90 minutes before it was brought under control, with overhaul and hotspot mitigation continuing for another two hours.

Woodstock fire officials said the swift actions of firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to two nearby structures.

The barn, which was used for storage, was considered a total loss, with initial damage estimates exceeding $1 million.

    No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, but it is not believed to be suspicious.
