This New Hampshire Campground is Perfect for First Time Campers
Last weekend my wife and I went up to the White Mountains to camp and tackle another NH 4,000 footer. We were planning on hiking near Crawford Notch (one of the most beautiful parts of the White Mountains); however, we did not have a campground picked out. We decided to...
Fishing Bamboo Fly Rods in NH
I am not very artistic, but I can appreciate good art and craftsmanship. Growing up on the water south of Boston I fell in love with wooden boats. I have a fondness for lapstrake boats, having refinished a number of them for friends. When I moved to New Hampshire I became enamored with wood canvas canoes. I love the beauty of the refinished wood and caned seats. I have bought and sold many over the years. Then I discovered bamboo fly rods.
Did You Know the Oldest Hiking Trail in the United States is in New Hampshire?
For all of the summer and fall weekends I have spent up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, you would think I would know this super unique fact about the Granite State. The oldest continuously-used hiking trail in the country is in New Hampshire. It is called the Crawford...

An adult from Hampstead, New Hampshire, died from an eastern equine encephalitis virus infection, health officials announced Tuesday. “EEEV is a rare but serious disease transmitted to people by infected mosquitoes,” a statement from the New...
Have You Hiked to ‘Little Niagara’ Waterfall in New Hampshire?
I have written about two really unique hikes for kids and families in New Hampshire, and received lots of positive feedback. Hike #1: The Winnie the Pooh hike, where you can see the characters' homes and be a part of Christopher Robin's world. Hike #2: Jake's Pond hike, where you...
Leonard Witt: Using tax dollars to feed rich kids brick oven pizzas
Mark McConkey, marching in Madison’s Old Home Week parade, held a placard announcing his GOP state senate candidacy. As he walked, he threw penny candy to kids along the route. It was a nice gesture. It’s in contrast to his vote, illustrated by this InDepthNH.org headline: “NH House Kills...

NH's state fish find refuge in the White Mountains amid threats from climate change
Fly fishing is one of the activities that draws people from all over to New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Brook trout thrive throughout the region’s cold waters, so I asked fly fisherman Steve Angers to show me one of his favorite spots for New Hampshire’s state fish. Angers...

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Not only was Monday 'National Dog Day,' an event was held Tuesday in Concord, NH recognizing the irreplaceable role dogs have taken in our lives. State took in record lottery revenues last year, a boost to Education Trust Fund
The New Hampshire Lottery Commission brought in record revenue the past fiscal year — money that will help fuel the state’s Education Trust Fund. In state fiscal year 2024, which ran from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024, New Hampshire took in a total $631 million in sales — a 5 percent increase from […]
Learning the Birds with Pam Hunt
Even on vacation, Pam Hunt communes with birds, including this pair of Canada jays in Pittsburg, New Hampshire. Photos by Pam Hunt. Pam Hunt grew up in an outdoorsy family in upstate New York. Her first camping outing came at the tender age of six months old, and she continues to enjoy camping and kayaking, always on the lookout for birds and dragonflies. She is the senior biologist for avian conservation at New Hampshire Audubon, working closely with the state’s Fish and Game Department in this role. An avid birder, Pam hopes to spot all the endemic birds of the West Indies; currently she has found 173, with 19 species remaining. When she’s not at work or out exploring the woods and water, Pam is likely to be at a Renaissance Faire, often in full costume.
