Kidz Market moves to July at Woodville Farmers Market

If ever you have stopped by a little lemonade stand on a hot summer day, you have seen that smile on a child's face as they take your order, figure out the change and hand you the cup.

It’s the smile of a young entrepreneur who is working to earn some money for a special something: a game, a new bike, or even to raise money for the local dog pound. A young salesperson who is thrilled to have made a sale.

I just love to see their eyes light up when I hand over that dollar. Years ago, I bought a bumblebee in a Mason jar from an enterprising young man trying to make some money for new fishing lures. Even if I don’t need a lemonade — or a bumblebee — I will always support a child’s business.

The Woodville Business and Community Association also supports our future business owners and added an annual Kidz Market to the Woodville Farmers Market schedule two years ago. It is an opportunity for children to learn about design, investment, production, marketing and sales in a low-key, friendly format.

The Kidz Market was held in conjunction with the August farmers market the first two years. Because the August market falls on the same weekend as the Sandusky County Fair, youth who had projects at the fair were not able to participate. Taking that into consideration, the WBCA has scheduled the event to take place along with the July farmers market.

Young entrepreneurs are invited to bring their handmade jewelry, artwork, cupcakes, homemade dog biscuits, lemonade and other products to sell at the Kidz Market July 27 from 9 a.m. to noon at Trail Market Park. Vendor spaces will be free for the children, but participants will need to supply their own tables, chairs and displays. The Kidz Market is limited to vendors age 17 and younger.

Details and registration forms for the Kidz Market are available at the Woodville Library or by emailing WoodvilleFarmersMarket@gmail.com. Deadline to register is July 21.

Fourth of July Committee shares thanks

The Woodville Fourth of July Committee thanks everyone who had a part in making this year’s celebration a success: the sponsors, village services, entertainers, vendors, ride company, fireworks company, and participants in the parade, car show, the 5k and kids’ races and visitors to the celebration.

Committee members will take a break for the next few months to rest, regroup, and take care of projects at home, but they will be back at it in January to begin planning the 83rd celebration next July.

    Churches to host golf outing

The Woodville United Methodist Church and Solomon Lutheran Church will put on a golf outing Aug. 9 at noon at Hidden Hills Golf Course. It will be a scramble format and there will be a light meal and refreshments afterward. For information, call WUMC at 419-849-2400 or Solomon at 419-849-3600.
