Ghost tales for around the campfire
I wonder if anyone still tells ghost stories around the campfire? This used to be one of the rites of summertime; like toasting marshmallows and sleeping under the stars when it grew too hot and humid indoors. I remember as a kid how creepy things looked in the dark especially in the woods when trees and bushes seemed to take on weird shapes and the only sounds were the constant buzzing of strange insects, and the hooting of owls. Wiscasset and Woolwich being deep-rooted New England towns have their share of ghost stories. Toss a log on the fire and listen while I tell you two of my favorites.
Harpswell adopts ‘right to fish’
Harpswell has a new right-to-fish policy intended to protect the town’s working waterfronts and fishermen. “We have a sign when you come into town saying we’re a working waterfront community. We’re pushing the town to do more than just a sign,” Cundy’s Harbor fisherman Matt Gilley, who helped develop the policy, told the Anchor before the meeting.

The July 17 benefit show for the Ed and Candie Crocker family featuring “American Idol” top 7 performer Julia Gagnon was a success beyond belief. Folks attending were treated to her unbelievable singing and original songs created by both Julia and her fiancé Nate. The Crockers lost their Edgecomb home to a fire on June 3.
Characters of the County: Deb Arter is Everywhere, All at Once
Damariscotta resident Deb Arter is seemingly everywhere doing just about everything. Depending on her jam-packed schedule she could be performing on stage in the latest Lincoln Theater production, teaching an adult education class on cooking, baking, or art in Brunswick, hosting the Airbnb she runs out of her home, or making paintings, collages, or printmaking.
CMT stages tribute to Dominic Garvey in ‘Dominic’s Diner’
Carousel Music Theater (CMT) is staging “Dominic’s Diner” an hour-long tribute to Boothbay Harbor’s Dominic Garvey (1936-2015), written, directed and choreographed by Michelle Brucker. “I worked with him, from 1990-1991, and his loving guidance helped me reach my career goals. Dominic taught me so much, this show is a love letter dedicated to his memory,” she said.
Review: Into the Land of Magic: MSMT Presents THE STORY OF THE NUTCRACKER
What could be more enticing to youngsters than Christmas that comes early? This summer Maine State Music Theatre invites families to experience Christmas in July at the Pickard Theater and to share the magic of a musical never before presented here in Brunswick: Robin and Clark’s THE STORY OF THE NUTCRACKER. Twinkling lights, myriads of trees, a market filled with goodies, and even a hint of snow …. all join forces to create an immersive experience for the Theatre for Young Audiences series. While Robin and Clark’s musical version of the Nutcracker story has been a Christmas staple for years in cities like Chicago and Lancaster, PA, it has not been presented here in Maine until now. But after this debut series of performances, one can only hope it will become a new Maine tradition.
