9/11 survivor Julie Williams Dailey shares story with Wynne Junior High students
WYNNE — A survivor of the September 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center was in Wynne Thursday to share her story with students at Wynne Junior High School. Julie Williams Dailey grew up in McCrory and was living in New York City. Dailey is the sister of Sean Williams of First Financial Bank in Wynne.

Cross County Historical Society seeks donations to restore Historic New Hope School
WYNNE — The Cross County Historical Society is seeking donations to make repairs to the New Hope School and reopen it to the public. Becky Taylor, director of the Cross County Museum, said the New Hope School has been closed for over 18 months due to the condition of the facility. She said the damage was a result of improper construction and management. She said the deck was made out of untreated lumber and became rotten. It was later discovered plywood was used under the deck with no flashing and also had to be replaced.

Contested races set for Wynne City Council in November election
CROSS COUNTY — There will be at least three contested races for seats on the Wynne City Council this November. Filings continued Thursday in the Cross County Clerk’s office with Ricky McDaniel filing for the Ward 4, Position 2 seat currently held by Kenneth Lofton, Jr. who has also filed. Ward 3, Position 2 incumbent Lisa Powell Carter will also face a challenge by Tresha Cotton Light and Shirley Simmons has filed for the Ward 5, Position 2 seat currently held by Jason Nichols. Nichols has not yet filed for re-election but is expected to.

CONWAY, Ark. (KAIT) - A Hoxie Mustang great is galloping to more national accolades. UCA running back ShunDerrick Powell was named to the 2024 Walter Payton Award watch list. It’s like the Heisman Trophy in FCS. Powell rushed for 1,009 yards and 6 touchdowns for the Bears in 2023. He passed the 200 yard mark in 2 games last season. Powell toted the rock 23 times for 256 yards and 2 scores against Abilene Christian. He rushed for 218 yards and 2 TD against North Dakota State.

Before that, Bolling, a native of Rogers, joined “Yawn Patrol” to talk about her journey as Miss Arkansas’ Teen, a title previously held by current Miss Arkansas Camille Cathey.
Arkansas County Fair poultry testing clinic set for Sept. 6
Preparations are gearing up for the 2024 Arkansas County Fair. All poultry, which includes domesticated game birds, turkeys, pheasants, guineas, and quail, must be tested for Pullorum-Typhoid within 90 days of the exhibition. Only Waterfowl and 2024 4-H Poultry Chain birds that have not been housed with any other poultry are exempt from testing. A Poultry Bleeding Clinic is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 6. It will be held at the Arkansas County Extension Office, 1009 Liberty Drive, DeWitt from 3 – 6 p.m.
Survey: NWA residents continue to report high-quality life, cites housing issues
BENTONVILLE, Ark. — A new survey by the Walton Family Foundation reveals that Northwest Arkansas residents report high ratings in their "overall quality of life." "It's a beautiful area.," Franchesca Brownhanney, a student at the University of Arkansas said. "There's so much life here and energy and it's a very creative space to be at. I've seen a lot of small businesses come into Fayetteville, into Bentonville. A lot of sports and recreational places."
