Most people who attend live events get too swept away in the bright lights, booming speakers and famous people on stage to think about what goes into putting such events together or what it took for the venue to be built. For North Little Rock, however, it is not the performers but a venue that takes centerstage. Simmons Bank Arena celebrates its 25-year milestone this fall, marking a quarter century of bringing concerts, sporting events, graduations, conferences and economic development to the area.

Bentonville teacher housing project gets $18.7 million boost
An income-driven housing development for teachers has secured enough funding to move forward with construction. The nonprofit Excellerate Foundation this week announced the commitment of $18.7 million in additional financial support for McAuley Place, which includes housing units designated for Bentonville School District employees and other families in the district.
New mural at KADF honors local hero
A new mural at Dexter B. Florence Memorial Field Airport (KADF) in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, is paying homage to a local veteran. The mural, which was officially dedicated on July 26, 2024, highlights one of the general aviation aircraft seen flying over Arkadelphia daily. These aircraft are used for personal use, farming, and by aviation students at Henderson State University, airport officials noted.
Village Creek State Park to offer free weekend events
VILLAGE CREEK — Village Creek State Park has another full slate of free events scheduled for this weekend. The park will host a Trail of Tears guided hike at 10 a.m. on Saturday beginning at the Lake Austell boat ramp parking lot. The 1.5-mile hike will last an hour and explore the history of the Old Military Road Trail and the Trail of Tears. Please bring water and wear comfortable shoes for hiking.

Cherry Street bridge in Alma set to be demolished, rebuilt as part of new project
ALMA, Ark. — According to the City of Alma, a bridge will be closed down for over a year, starting Aug. 5. The narrow bridge on Cherry Street that sits between Fayetteville Avenue and Marsha Wooly Dr (Highway 162) will be demolished and replaced as part of a project that "will likely take more than 12 months to complete," according to the city.
