Purrrrfectly fine: Annual feline show draws 300-plus cats and kittens to Wooster

Here, kitty, kitty, kitty,

Call them and they will come.

The Buckeye Ohio Rollers Club recently pulled into Wooster for its annual Allbreed & Household Pet Cat Show at the Wayne County Event Center on the fairgrounds in Wooster.

There were 185 cats and kittens entered into the seven show rings Saturday and 173 on Sunday. The feline friends competed for top cat in various judging rings each day, and visitors were able to roam the many rows of cats and kittens and talked to their owners.

According to Vicki Jo Harrison, who is the president of the International Cat Association and lead judge at the show, this is one of the largest cat shows in the country.

Cat shows are held on every continent except Antarctica. Before COVID there were 400-500 shows held annually.

The association is back up to 300 shows this year, she said.

Entrants came from all over.

Anne Paul and her daughter flew from Houston, Texas, with six cats in three carriers. Two of her cats, Perfect Storm and Bacchus, are ranked No. 1 internationally in the Ragdoll breed, adult and kitten.

Angela Hasley of Marietta brought her 11-month-old Bengal cat named Uride The Wind. He was born in France before coming to Ohio.

One cat in the show was a rescue from southern Ohio.

There also was a household cat division.
