WORCESTER — The Dennis F. Shine Memorial Swimming Pool at Vernon Hill Park is expected to reopen Thursday after being closed Wednesday because of broken glass at the facility.

According to the Department of Conservation and Recreation, vandalism resulted in broken glass entering the pool.

In July, the city-operated Crompton Park pool closed for most of a week after glass was found in the water. The glass was thrown over the fence at night and found in the morning.

The Dennis F. Shine Jr. Memorial Swimming Pool, located on Providence Street, was briefly closed in June because the pool was not allowed to open without a police detail. The closure was reported a week after police responded to a report of a large fight at Bennett Field Pool in the Webster Square neighborhood. Both the Dennis F. Shine and Bennett Field pools are managed by the DCR.
