New owner reveals plan for former Christmas Tree Shops location in Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY ― An indoor recreation park, heavy on trampolines, is planning to hop into Olde Shrewsbury Village by the end of the year.

Fun City Adventure Park, an entertainment park business that took flight in 2015, has recently filed applications with the town to take over the former location of the now-defunct Christmas Tree Shops , its owner Zi Qian Zhang said Wednesday.

Christmas Tree Shops closed last year after a company-wide liquidation of stores following a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

Zhang said Fun City has over 20 sites throughout the country, some of which are in Massachusetts. The company also operates locations in Taunton, Springfield and Seekonk.

Zhang, whose business ventures are based in Fall River, said the Shrewsbury location would feature high-performance and regular trampolines, a climbing wall and a playground for toddlers, among other attractions.

The space totals about 40,000 square feet.

“A lot of trampoline parks only have trampolines, not the other items,” Zhang said. “People get tired of that.

“This one has everything you can name.”

Christmas Tree Shops closed last year after a 35-year run at Olde Shrewsbury Village.

Zhang bought the property in March for $13.6 million from the son of Charles and Doreen Bilezikian, who in 1970 purchased the original Christmas Tree Gift Shop in Yarmouthport and went on to expand it into a regional business.

Zhang said the Fun City locations are owned by “family and partners.”

The possibility of turning the Shrewsbury site into a trampoline park first arose in April, when Town Manager Kevin Mizikar announced it during a Select Board meeting by calling the move “good news” and beneficial for Olde Shrewsbury Village.

If approved by the town, the park will be located less than 2 miles from Launch Family Entertainment, another trampoline park along Route 9 in Westborough.

Also along Route 9, a bouncy-house indoor park called Jump Nation is located less than a mile away from Olde Shrewsbury Village.
