WORCESTER — Alums looking for some memorabilia will have their chance to purchase a piece of the old Doherty Memorial High School, as artifacts from the now-demolished building are being put up for sale.

On Saturday, the school will be holding an auction fundraiser for items from the old building, to take place in the new Doherty High School, 299 Highland St.

Items up for sale include signs, auditorium chairs, lockers, commemorative bricks and even old scoreboards from the Doherty gymnasium. Money raised from the sale will go to Doherty's general fund, used to benefit the school, according to the district.

The largest item for sale, two original scoreboards from the gymnasium, are listed for sale at $2,000. A pair of auditorium chairs will cost you $200, while lockers are listed at $150. Original commemorative bricks from the building, complete with authentication documents, are listed at $250, with a limited supply of 200 bricks available. For those on a budget, signs for different classrooms start at just $15.

The sale will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items not sold off will be later listed for sale online. The district said that additional questions about the sale should be directed to doherty.alumni.prom@gmail.com . A complete list of the inventory on sale can be found online .

The auction will coincide with self-guided tours of the new Doherty school, which are open to the public. Worcester residents are invited to explore the 425,000-square-foot facility, which opened to students last month and came with a $316 million price tag.

In addition to new standard school facilities, such as a cavernous cafeteria, expansive gymnasium and a state-of-the-art library and media center, the new school includes a black box theatre for the performing arts and expanded space for additional vocational education.

The old Doherty building was located next door to the new building and was demolished after the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
