Mountaineers Shine in Night Scrimmage: Greene and Marchiol Excel
West Virginia's football team held its first full preseason scrimmage under the lights at Milan Puskar Stadium, executing over 100 plays. Quarterbacks Garrett Greene and Nicco Marchiol each threw two touchdown passes, while Ryder Burton connected with TJ Johnson on a 47-yard scoring pass. True freshman Diore Hubbard had a notable long touchdown run, and multiple players found the end zone during red-zone drills. The defense showed promise early, forcing three-and-outs on the first two possessions, but some struggles in pass coverage emerged later in the scrimmage.

Trial and error: WVU continues testing in-helmet communication system new to college football this year
The 2024 college football season will be the first with two major technological changes on the sidelines. Teams will have access to Microsoft tablets to get aerial looks at opposing team’s placements and results, similar to what NFL teams have had on their sidelines for years. Another addition to the college sideline — and the playing surface — that has been a mainstay at the next level is coach-to-player communication via speakers inside players’ helmets.
