    Longtime West Virginia lawmaker Bob Ashley dies

    ROANE COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — Bob Ashley, a longtime lawmaker out of Roane County, has died at 70 years old.

    Ashley served in the West Virginia Legislature for 31 years as a delegate and more recently as a senator. He then served as the legislative liasion for Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV).

    “I knew Bob when I got elected as a young fellow in 1987 to the House of Delegates, and one of the first people I met was Bob Ashley,” said Tom Susman in an interview with 13 News Chief Political Reporter Mark Curtis. “He was a gentleman, he was always above board, he and his wife, Anita, were just two of the finest people I ever met in politics.”

    Ashley is survived by his wife, Circuit Court Judge Anita Ashley, and two sons. There is no word on the cause of his death.
