Capital Sports Center expected to open to public in December 2026

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — The Capital Sports Center in Charleston is expected to open to the public in December 2026, according to Kanawha County Commissioner Ben Salango.

The commissioner also said construction on the facility is expected to begin in March 2025, and 90% of the building will be done by December 2026.

The facility was announced back in 2022 and will be in downtown Charleston in the area of the old Macy’s connected to the Charleston Town Center.

Demolition on the Macy’s began in late April. It has now been torn down making way for the Capital Sports Center.
