CABELL COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – Cabell County Schools started Wednesday, and there are plenty of books to be read this year.

Cabell County Schools and the Cabell County Public Library joined the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History for a book distribution at eight different schools. They began the distribution at Milton Elementary School.

“We’re giving away books to kids. We’re ‘learning ’em’ to read because if they learn to read, they will read to learn. And we’re very, very excited that the governor helped us get books through our appropriations, through our federal and state funding. And we want to make sure that elementary kids have a lot of books to read,” said Randall Reid-Smith, cabinet secretary of the Department of Arts, Culture and History.

The book drive wrapped up Friday afternoon at Ona Elementary.
