    UPDATE: West Side power outage resolved

    UPDATE (3:01 p.m. on August 18, 2024) — Appalachian Power reports that all power outages in Charleston’s West Side and Edgewood have been resolved.

    As of 2:30 p.m., the tree that caused the outage has been removed and Washington Street between Edgewood and Mathews is back open to traffic.


    UPDATE (12:08 p.m. on August 18, 2024) — As of 12:10 p.m., Appalachian Power reports that only 11 people are still without power on Charleston’s West Side and Edgewood. The estimated time for restoration is now 8 p.m.

    CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — More than 700 people on Charleston’s West Side reportedly lost power Sunday morning.

    According to the Appalachian Power outage map, around 768 people are without power as of 12 p.m. The outage was first reported around 6:53 a.m. and was caused by a tree falling on power lines at Washington Street at Edgewood Drive.

    It is estimated that the area will see power restored around 12:30 p.m.
