FLOYD COUNTY, KY (WOWK) — The suspects in the death of Amber Spradlin, a 38-year-old woman found dead in June 2023, were in court on Monday. Here’s what happened.

    Michael McKinney II

Michael McKinney II, 56, is facing eight counts of complicity to tampering with evidence. He was released on bond earlier in August .

In court on Monday, it was decided he could work Monday through Friday while out on bond. He must wear an ankle monitor at all times and be home by 5 p.m. each day, according to Floyd County Circuit Court

    Josh Mullins

Josh Mullins, 23, is also facing eight counts of complicity to tampering with evidence. His bond was reduced to $50,000 from $100,000 in court on Monday, according to Floyd County Circuit Court.

    Michael McKinney III

McKinney III, 24, is facing those eight charges on top of murder. He is accused of stabbing Spradlin repeatedly, killing her.

His bond reduction motion was withdrawn. His bond is still $5 million.

It was also found that McKinney III’s defense attorney – Attorney Randy Martin O’Neal – was in contempt and was fined $500 regarding a motion he filed with the court, the Floyd County Circuit Court said.

    What all has happened?

According to their first indictments, McKinney III stabbed Spradlin, killing her. All three are charged for allegedly removing, concealing or destroying the handle from the knife used, clothing worn by McKinney III, a surveillance camera, a digital video recorder and a hard drive, as well as cleaning up or removing blood from a kitchen and laundry or utility room sink.

Their indictments said the cameras “would have captured the murder,” and the recorder would have recorded that footage. The hard drive was to a computer with information about the surveillance cameras, according to the indictments.

A new indictment came down on Aug. 14 that accused the three of fabricating physical evidence. The indictment suggested a knife had been planted where the act took place.

Since Spradlin’s death, her story has gained widespread attention. A recent wrongful death and negligence lawsuit filed by Spradlin’s estate details what allegedly led to Spradlin being in the home the night she was killed. That lawsuit also lists public officials , including law enforcement and those in the house where she was found as defendants.

Their pre-trial is scheduled for Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. in Floyd County Circuit Court. No trial date has been set.
